A Spirituality for the year of the priest     January 24-29, 2010     A Guided, silent Retreat for Priests     with Rev. Mark Begly

Pope Benedict writes, �There is no doubt that the historical and the social conditions in which the Cure d�Ars lived have changed and it is right to wonder how priests in today�s globalized societies can imitate him by identifying with him in their own ministries.�

In our retreat together we will try to do just that:  wonder what in means to capture the spirit of St. John Vianney in our own time, in our own situations, and in our own circumstances.  We will consider our own unique 21st century challenges, and how we, too, can become men of prayer who, like the Cure, envision our priesthood as �the love of the heart of Jesus.�

The daily format will consist of Eucharist with homily (please bring alb and stole for concelebration), one conference, optional time of sharing, silence, and Eucharistic Adoration.

Rev. Mark S. Begly is currently the pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Altoona, Pennsylvania.  He has a M. Div. and an M. A. in Theology with a concentration in Moral Theology from Mount St. Mary�s Seminary.

He entered Mount St. Mary�s Seminary in 1980, and was ordained a priest on May 19, 1984.  From 1993 to 2001 Fr. Mark was the pastor and director of St. John the Baptist Church and Retreat Center in New Baltimore, Pennsylvania.  He teaches in the Lay Ministry program for the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, has taught the course on Diocesan Priestly Spirituality at St. Vincent�s Seminary, and has given numerous retreats and days of reflection at St. John the Baptist Retreat Center, St. Emma Retreat House, and at St. Vincent Seminary.
 

The  retreat opens with dinner on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. and closes Friday morning.  There are eight spaces available in the monastic guest house.  Offering for guest house, $360.  Please note, we currently have a waiting list for rooms at the monastic guest house.

Additional accommodations are available at the retreat house (private room, each with  sink, restrooms/showers at end of the hall).  Offering for retreat house, $325.
